Boys Off to School & Thrifty Treasures

I haven't been going to the sales much in the last few weeks because I was busy getting my boys off to school.

This is my baby.  Off to boarding school in the mountains.  What a view to wake up to every morning.

Here is my college son.  He also has  a view.  The boys are 8 hours from home but only 5 minutes away from each other.

Now on to the Thrifty Treasures.  Don't forget to visit Rhoda to see what all the other bloggers are finding this week.

One ugly brown chair now cherry red.  The chair was $5 and the paint was $3.  Not bad for a whole new look.

This little table I have had for a while.  I think it was $5 at some sale.  I have been wanting update the my younger son's room so decided to paint this black.  I'm thinking of painting all of his bedroom furniture black while he is away at school.
Here is the finished black table.  I left the doors off.  I like it better like this.  Now I just need to get rid of the "little boy blue" on the walls to something more suitable for a teenager.  He may be a little surprised at Thanksgiving to come home to a new room. (sorry for the blurry picture)

I bought these plates and plate rack at two different yard sales.  The plates were 50 cents each and the plate rack was an ugly gold and cost $2.
Now, this ugly nightstand is my next project.  It was $2.50.

Make sure you stop by Rhoda's to see everyone's great treasures for the week.

I keep hitting something that is underlining the text.  Unfortunately, my sons are away at school so I can't get them to fix it.

You really did a great job with your black paint!! I like all the new looks for sure. I agree that the side table with the doors off is a lot nicer!

Hi Tarva, I'm glad you visit often- you've never commented before, I'm glad you did today. I love your little red chair. The black table DOES look good without the doors. A lot more open... I wish I could find inexpensive plates like you did. I love black/white and blue/white, but I can never find them. :-( Maybe one day...

You are a thrifty shopper too! Love what you did with the chair. It looks so much cheerier in red! Updated and modern.

First of all, it's wonderful that your boys are ony 5 minutes apart.
I could never get any studying done with those views to look at!!!

You found some real goodies.
The black cabinet turned out very nice. Love the red chair.

The rub-ons at Big Lots were located in the craft area with scrapbook stuff. They also had a ton of letters at my B.L.

Those are beautiful blue plates and they look great on that plate rack! I like the chair - red is a favorite color of mine!

BTW I love the Firm DVD's. I already had a few. They are hard but they work!
